Alert Pendant: The Right Help

by Art Gibb, freelance writer on behalf of of Med Alert ( 7-Sep-2012 )

My grandmother is in her early nineties, and only now is she facing severe health problems. As her body is failing, so is her mind. She often does not realize where she is or how she got there. It’s difficult to keep up with someone who is not only disoriented, but tenacious when being told information she doesn’t appreciate. That’s why we, members of her family, tend to worry about her getting in situations she should avoid. Although she is fortunately under close supervision, we appreciate the idea of an extra tool on hand. In situations like my family’s, we can benefit from an alert pendant.

A medical alert device can come in handy for a number of reasons. When a family member is not around or for other reasons, elderly people can be on their own and without assistance. So if they have a nasty fall or undergoes some type of injury that prevents them from the reach of a telephone, a portable device may be needed. This way, immediate medical care can be administered.

Fortunately, a company called Med-Alert provides such a senior emergency alert system. They provide alert devices that are activated by one simple touch. These are easy to use for old eyes and are portable and small enough that they can be tied around the wrist, hung around the neck, or strapped to a belt. The device is more than half smaller than the palm of an average person’s hand, so it is lightweight and not a burden to carry around. The alert pendant base is guaranteed to be easy to install and the distance from the base to the pendant is as far as six hundred feet. The pendant is also water-resistant, so if an elderly user slips in the shower, the pendant will be available for immediate and effective use. If a person were to press the emergency button, operators would be standing by, since this system operates for twenty-four hours. The people on the other line are professional, well-informed, and experienced. This means the elderly user will receive the instant and accurate attention from family, police, paramedics, etc.

Although people may make fun of those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercials, there is some truth to them. Elderly people are fragile and falling down or suffering another injury is nearly inevitable. And when they can’t get up, they are going to want a fast, simple technology that won’t befuddle them. With the touch of a button, Med-Alert provides instant communication and instant help. When an emergency is present, so is the right help.
